Syracuse cornerback Garrett Williams is unlikely to play vs. Clemson on Saturday, per a report.
That’s according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who notes that Williams has been unable to practice this week. He suffered a leg injury in the second half of Syracuse’s win over NC State last weekend.
Coach Dino Babers didn’t tip his hand on Saturday morning, but said it would be “next man up” if Williams isn’t able to go.
This is a potentially game-changing injury for the Orange, as Williams has been one of the country’s best cornerbacks this season. He’s a big reason why Syracuse as the ACC’s No. 1 defense entering Week 8.
Syracuse does have another excellent cornerback in Duce Chestnut, but it’s unclear who will take Williams’ place on his side of the field.
Clemson’s passing offense has been much-improved this season, so the Tigers may be able to take advantage of Williams’ absence.
