Marques Hagans is officially leaving his alma mater for a new opportunity in coaching.
On Monday, Hagans was officially introduced as the next wide receivers coach and offensive recruiting coordinator at Penn State. A former quarterback star for Virginia during his playing days, Hagans’ coaching career began with the Cavs as a graduate assistant in 2011.
Following Monday’s news, Hagans released a statement to the UVA community:
“It has been my most gratifying honor to coach at my alma mater, the University of Virginia, for the past twelve seasons,” wrote Hagans. “UVA enriched my life to the highest degree as a student-athlete for four years, and it was humbling to have the opportunity to teach and inspire young men for more than a decade thereafter… On behalf of my entire family, thank you to the countless players, coaches, Wahoo fans, athletic administration and people within the Charlottesville community who have made sixteen years of my life so fulfilling. I am eternally grateful for your support, trust, inspiration and loyalty.”
From 2002-05, Hagans threw for 4,877 yards and scored 38 total touchdowns for the Cavs. He still ranks 10th on the program’s all-time list for passing yards and is tied for 11th in passing touchdowns with 27.
