Tennessee to honor Virginia football shooting victims with moment of silence

Tennessee will hold a moment of silence before kickoff on Saturday against Virginia to honor the 3 former Cavaliers players who were shot and killed last November.

The players, D’Sean Perry, Devin Chandler and Lavel Davis Jr., will also be represented on a helmet decal the Vols are set to wear this weekend.

Josh Heupel announced that news on Monday afternoon.

“It was a horrific tragedy that took place on their campus,” Heupel said

. “They’ve had a long time to try and grow through that, and you recognize what happened. There will be a moment of silence before the game and we will wear a decal of the three individuals who lost their lives on the back of the helmet.”

Perry, Chandler and Davis were killed in a shooting at Culbreth Garage on the Grounds at the University of Virginia last November. Two other students, i

ncluding Virginia running back Mike Hollins, were injured in the shooting.

Hollins is expected to have a role in Virginia’s offense this season. He rushed for a career-high 215 yards and scored 2 touchdowns last season.

This will be Virginia’s first game since the shooting. The Cavaliers canceled their final 2 games of the season last year.

Tennessee and Virginia have not played since 1991. The Vols are 3-1 all-time against Virginia. The Cavaliers’ lone win in this series came back in 1980 in Knoxville.

Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon in Nashville.
