Virginia explodes for 42 1st half points vs. BYU, including 5 TDs from Brennan Armstrong

Virginia once trailed 28-7 to BYU on Saturday night in Provo, but the Cavaliers stormed back to take a 42-38 halftime lead.

Brennan Armstrong led six consecutive touchdown drives to end the half. Five of them took l

ess than 1:45 to complete.

Armstrong completed 16-of-24 passes for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also ran the ball 8 times for 91 yards and 2 more scores. All three of his touchdowns went to three different receivers.

Running back Devin Darri

ngton also played a factor as he scampered for a 49-yard touchdown in the second quarter. That was his only touch of the first half.

In total, Virginia produced 12 chunk plays in the opening two quarters. That’s six passes of more than 15 yards and six rushes of more than 10 yards. Those plays went for a total of 345 yards.

BYU was favored by 2.5 points in this game. The total was set at 66.5 points.

Virginia is looking for its fifth consecutive win since losing to Wake Forest back on Sept. 24. The Cavaliers are still alive in the hunt for the ACC Coastal division title.
