Virginia gives update on QB situation ahead of Maryland game

Virginia quarterback Tony Muskett is expected to get the start on Friday vs. Maryland.

Cavaliers offensive coordinator Des Kitchings shared that news on Wednesday morning. Muskett missed Virginia’s Week 2 contest with James Madison with a shoulder injury.

Muskett is Virginia’s top veteran option at the quarterback position. He’s in his first year with the program after transferring in from Monmouth.

With Muskett out injured in Week 2, Virginia turned to true freshman Anthony Colandera against JMU. Colandera played well, throwing for 377 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 36-35 loss.

Muskett completed 9-of-17 passes for 94 y

ards against Tennessee before exiting with the injury.

Virginia is now 0-2 on the season. The Cavaliers are likely to face a tough uphill battle to bowl eligibility in 2023 given their slow start.

Maryland is 44-32-2 all-time against Virginia. The Terps have won 2 straight games in this series, but the programs haven’t met since 2013.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday night.
