Virginia loses experienced defensive end to transfer portal

Virginia defensive end Hunter Stewart has entered the transfer portal, according to a report.

That’s per On3’s Matt Zenitz, who notes that Stewart was a frequent starter for the Cavaliers as recently as 2021.

In 2021, Stewart played in 11 games and recorded a career-high 37 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. He finished 9th on the team in total tackles that season.

Stewart’s role took a step backwards in 2022. Last season, he recorded just 6 tackles for the Cavaliers. He was a reserve linebacker for most of the 2

022 campaign.

Stewart was a 3-star prospect in the class of 2019. He was the No. 34 outside linebacker in the country for his class, per 247Sports. He spent 4 seasons with UVA before entering the portal.

He’s originally from Alexandria, Virginia. He attended Gonzaga High School in Washington D.C.

Stewart will have 2 years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
