Armstrong entered 2022 with high expectations, but the Cavaliers’ offense struggled mightily in Year 1 under Tony Elliott. Armstrong finished dead last amongst ACC quarterbacks with a passer rating of 109.06.
He threw for only 2,210 yards, 7 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season. The year before in Robert Anae’s offense at UVA, Armstrong threw for 4,449 yards, 31 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions.
Armstrong will have one year of eligibility remaining at his next program. He’s originally from Shelby, Ohio.
No other Virginia quarterback completed a pass in 2022. Jay Woolfolk attempted two passes, but both fell incomplete. Woolfolk could remain with the Cavaliers and compete for the starting job next season.
Virginia signed two quarterbacks in the class of 2022 who could also be in the mix: Davis Lane and Delaney Crawford. Both were 3-star prospects, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Virginia has a quarterback committed in the class of 2023 as well: 3-star Anthony Colandrea. The Cavaliers could also look to bring in a new quarterback via the transfer portal.
