Breaking down Virginia Tech's 2022 recruiting class so far
Despite questions about his job security, Justin Fuente has still managed to bring a quality recruiting class to Blacksburg. The Hokies’ 2022 class currently ranks No. 4 in the ACC and already has 23 commitments in the fold.
The class is led by three blue-chip prospects who could have an opportunity to contribute early in their Virginia Tech careers: interior offensive lineman Gunner Givens, running back Ramon Brown and cornerback Cam Johnson.
The Hokies left the region to get several key prospects, including 3-star quarterback Alex Orji (Sachse, Texas). They have a total of three commitments from the Lone Star State so far in this cycle.
Here’s a breakdown of Va Tech’s 2022 class as it currently stands:
Class ranking: No. 4 in ACC, No. 19 nationally
Total commits: 23
Blue-chip commits (4-and-5-star prospects): 3
Highest-rated offensive player: 4-star IOL Gunner Givens | No. 140 overall | No. 5 IOL | Daleville, Virginia
Highest-rated defensive player: 4-star CB Cam Johnson | No. 325 overall | No. 33 CB | Baltimore, Maryland
Final thoughts: This is a deep class already, but it could use more quality at the top. Virginia Tech’s defense has struggled at times this season, and having just one blue chip prospect on defense in this class won’t help matters moving forward.
