Brent Pry addresses clock management issues in final minute of Old Dominion loss

Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry struggled with late-game clock management in the final minute of his head coaching debut on Friday night.

Old Dominion got inside the 1-yard line with a long pass with 1:09 remaining in the game. After officials reviewed the play and discussed a pass interference penalty, the clock restarted.

The clock ran all the way down to 0:41 before the Hokies realized the situation and called timeout. Pry told reporters after the game he was attempting to call timeout but officials didn’t see him until nearly 30 seconds had fallen off the clock.

That proved to be v

aluable time as the Monarchs scored a touchdown 2 players later, leaving Virginia Tech with only 33 seconds to mount a game-winning drive.

Virginia Tech failed to do so, and suffered its second loss to ODU in Norfolk in the last 5 seasons.

Virginia Tech made numerous other mistakes in this game, including 5 turnovers (4 interceptions) and 15 penalties.

The Hokies host Boston College in Week 2.
