Grant Wells, Jaylin Lane’s injury status updated ahead of Virginia Tech-Marshall, per report

Virginia Tech quarterback Grant Wells and wide receiver Jaylin Lane will be questionable as the Hokies face Marshall on Saturday, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Neither Wells nor Lane played in the Hokies’ 35-16 loss to Rutgers during Week 3 as they are dealing with an ankle and hamstring injury, respectively. In place of Wells was Kyron Drones, who was 19-of-32 for 190 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. His primary target was Da’Quan Felton, who made 6 catches for 84 yards and a score.

Both players’ last outing was a 24-7 Week 2 loss to Purdue. Wells was 16-of-33 for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns but threw 2 interceptions. Lane made 5 catches for 54 yards, including a touchdown catch.

The Hokies need to kick things into high gear if they’re to avoid a 1-4 start in Brent Pry’s 2nd season. They were 3-8 in 2022, including a 1-6 mark in the ACC.

Kickoff from Huntington between the Hokies and Thundering Herd is set for noon ET on ESPN2.
