Gary Patterson and TCU mutually parted ways after nearly 21 seasons on Sunday night.

It didn’t take long for college football fans — and Virginia Tech supporters — to start wondering who could replace Patterson at the helm in Fort Worth.

Hokies coach Justin Fuente’s name was immediately thrown around by both Va Tech fans and neutral observers. His candidacy would make sense — he’s originally from the region and was an assistant under Patterson from 2007-11.

Meanwhile, Fuente’s tenure with Virginia Tech seems to be trending in the wrong direction. He’s 42-30 overall in Blacksburg and hasn’t won 10 games with the Hokies since his first season in charge.

So would Fuente moving back to TCU and clearing way for a new Virginia Tech coach make sense across the board?
