Report: Virginia Tech has ‘strong interest’ in Wake Forest’s Dave Clawson

Virginia Tech is strongly considering Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson for its head coaching vacancy, according to a report.

That’s per the Football Scoop’s Zach Barnett, who cites sources.

Clawson is in his eight season at Wake Forest. He’s led t

he Demon Deacons to an unprecedented six consecutive bowl games and has them within one win of the ACC Championship game.

He’s also the architect of what has been the ACC’s most explosive offense this season. Wake Forest is averaging more than 45 points per game this season and has scored at least 30 points in every contest.

Virginia Tech, meanwhile, has been struggling in recent years. The Hokies parted ways with Justin Fuente earlier this week, ending a six-year partnership.

Despite Virginia T

ech’s recent struggles, it’s broader fan support and tradition could make it an attractive landing spot for Clawson.

Louisiana’s Billy Napier and Marshall’s Charles Huff are also believed to be candidates.

If Wake Forest wins either of its next two games, it will clinch a berth in the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 4. That means Clawson likely wouldn’t be able to accept the Virginia Tech job until after that date, which could complicate matters.

Virginia Tech faces Miami on the road this weekend.
