Virginia Tech quarterback Braxton Burmeister has decided to enter the transfer portal, per a report.

That’s according to 247Sports’ Evan G. Watkins, who also says Burmeister will not play in Virginia Tech’s upcoming Pinstripe Bowl.

Burmeister was Virginia Tech’s starting quarterback for the past two seasons, but missed multiple games due to injury. Prior to arriving in Blacksburg, he spent two years as a backup at Oregon.

In 2021, Burmeister completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 1,960 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for 521 yards and 2 additional scores.

Texas A&M transfer Connor Blumrick is likely to start Virginia Tech’s bowl game. He’s the only remaining scholarship quarterback on the roster.

Looking ahead, there are likely to be multiple quarterbacks in the transfer portal who could make sense for the Hokies. Finding a successor to Burmeister will be one of the biggest tasks of the offseason for new coach Brent Pry.

Virginia Tech faces Maryland on Dec. 29.
