Tyler Nickel, former North Carolina G/F, transferring to ACC team

Tyler Nickel has a found new home. The former North Carolina guard/forward will reportedly stay in the ACC.

Nickel is transferring to Virginia Tech, he told Joe Tipton of On3.

It’s a homecoming for Nickel, the all-time leading scorer in the state of Virginia with 2,909 points in 102 games (28.5 ppg). Coming out of East Rockingham in Elkton, Virginia, Nickel had a top 5 of North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Iowa, LSU, and Butler.

A 4-star prospect in the class of 2022, Nickel committed to UNC on Sept. 1

5, 2021. He was the Virginia Player of the Year for 2022.

In his freshman season, Nickel made 25 appearances for the Tar Heels, all off the bench. He averaged 2.1 points over 6.1 minutes per game.

Heading into his sophomore season, Nickel’s career highs include a 16-point game against the Citadel and 25 minutes of playing time against the Hokies.
