Virginia Tech added a big piece at the wide receiver position from the transfer portal over the weekend.

Former Middle Tennessee State wide receiver Jaylin Lane announced his commitment to Virginia Tech for the 2023 season on Sunday. Lane entered the transfer portal on Thursday and quickly found a new college football home.

Here’s his announcement:

Lane’s addition will help the offense improve in 2023. Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry will be looking to add more talent to the team and Lane will be a solid contributor to the passing game.

Lane played 3 seasons for Middle Tennessee and finished his time at the school with 1,528 receiving yards, 124 receptions and 10 receiving touchdowns. In 2022, Lane recorded 69 receptions, 940 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns in 11 games. In the Conference USA, Lane was 3rd in receiving yards in 2022. In Middle Tennessee’s win over San Diego State in the Hawaii Bowl, Lane hauled in 10 catches for 111 yards and 1 touchdown.

Lane had an impressive 2022 season and will look to have another big season with the Hokies. For the 2023 season, Lane will join several other wide receivers who transferred to Virginia Tech. Lane has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining in college football.

Virginia Tech ended the 2022 season with a 3-8 record.
