Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry shares his expectations for Hokies in Year 1

First-year Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry has a few specific expectations for his program in 2022.

Pry shared those thoughts on the Gramlich and Mac Lain podcast on Friday afternoon. In short, Pry wants to build a program that Hokies fans can be proud of.

“I want people to see a team that’s competitive as hell. That battles each and every week, whatever the situation,” Pry told Kelly Gramlich and Eric Mac Lain

. “I want us to be competitive. I want us to be tough. I want us to be multiple on offense, aggressive on defense and to make some plays in the kicking game. That, in a nutshell, is what I want to see.

“When people come into that stadium I want them to leave with a good taste in their mouth. Win or loss, I want them to say, ‘this is a good football team and they’re only going to get better.'”

That’s a quality that Virginia Tech fans didn’t necessarily feel over the past few seasons of the Justin Fuente era. While Fuente led Virginia Tech to 10 wins in his first season in Blackburg, things went down hill from there. The Hokies have won 8+ games just once in the last 4 seasons.

While Pry hasn’t led Virginia Tech to a win yet, he’s already clearly making strides to help rebuild the program on the recruiting trail. Virginia Tech already has 9 in-state commitments in the class of 2023

, which is an area where Fuente’s staff struggled in recent cycles.
