Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry shares how Hokies will approach offseason QB battle

Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry gave some insight into how his program will approach its upcoming quarterback battle this offseason.

He told reporters earlier this week that he expects there to be a “healthy competition” this offseason.

Transfers Grant Wells (Marshall) and Jason Brown (South Carolina) are expected to lead the competition. The Hokies also return other passers like Conor Blumrick, who started in the Pinstripe Bowl. Tahj Bullock is also returning.

Whoever wins the job will replace Braxton Burmeister, who entered the transfer portal this offseason. Burmeister often struggled with health and efficiency while playing for the H

okies.

Last season, Wells threw for 3,535 yards and 16 touchdowns while playing for the Mean Green. He also rushed for 7 touchdowns.

Brown was only a part-time starting for South Carolina, but was effective in a tough situation. He threw for 721 yards and 8 touchdowns in 7 contests for the Gamecocks.

Virginia Tech’s spring game is on April 16. Spring practice begins on March 18.
