Virginia Tech has officially hired Wisconsin’s Joe Rudolph to be its offensive line coach and run game coordinator.
Rudolph will also serve as Virginia Tech’s associate head coach, per the school. Here’s the announcement:
Rudolph joins the Hokies after a seven-year stint with Wisconsin. He’s also a Badgers alumni, having played for Barry Alvarez back in the mid 1990s.
He’s had play calling responsibilities in the past for Wisconsin, but head coach Paul Chryst took back those powers for the 2021 season. Wisconsin went 9-4 this season and defeated Arizona State in the Las Vegas Bowl to end the year.
Rudolph also has previous experience in the ACC. He was Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator from 2012-14 before leaving to take the offensive line coach job at Wisconsin.
Rudolph will be a big part of trying to rebuild Virginia Tech under coach Brent Pry. The Hokies have struggled offensively in recent years and will be counting on Rudolph and the rest of the offensive staff to help fix their issues. Virginia Tech finished No. 74 nationally in offensive SP+
