Virginia Tech will start Connor Blumrick at quarterback vs. Maryland on Dec. 29, the Hokies announced on Tuesday.

Interim coach JC Price confirmed that decision when speaking with reporters. With Braxton Burmeister entering the transfer portal, Blumrick was the lone remaining scholarship quarterback on the roster.

Blumrick is in his first season with Virginia Tech after transferring from Texas A&M. This season, he completed 7-of-16 passes for 42 yards and 2 touchdowns.

New Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry will be tasked with rebuilding the Hokies’ quarterback room this offseason. They’re likely to be active in the transfer portal and they also signed 3-star QB Devin Farrell in the class of 2022.

Virginia Tech is a 3.5-point underdog in its bowl game vs. Maryland, according to DraftKings. The Hokies haven’t won a bowl game since 2016 when they defeated Arkansas 35-24 in the Belk Bowl.

Kick off for the Pinstripe Bowl is at 2:00 p.m. ET on Dec. 29.
