The preseason ACC media poll results were revealed on Tuesday afternoon, and Virginia Tech landed a 5th place finish in the Coastal division.

Last season, the Hokies finished tied for 3rd place with a 4-4 record in conference play. They tied Virginia and finished above a 3-5 UNC team that faltered down the stretch.

Looking ahead to this season, Virginia Tech’s expectations aren’t sky-high in Year 1 under new coach Brent Pry. With the 5th place projection, Virginia Tech is only expected to beat out Georgia Tech and Duke in the Coastal.

Miami was picked to win the division by the panel of 164 media voters. Pittsburgh and UNC round out the top 3.

Here’s how the voting broke down:

  • Miami (98) – 1,036
  • Pitt (38) – 911
  • North Carolina (18) – 823
  • Virginia (6) – 667
  • Virginia Tech (3) – 592
  • Georgia Tech (1) – 343
  • Duke – 220

Virginia Tech is hoping Pry will return the program to being a perennial ACC contender. The Hokies have won 10+ games in a season just once over the past decade.

The Hokies will open the 2022 season with Old Dominion.
