Virginia Tech added two quarterbacks in the transfer portal on Thursday night.
The Hokies picked up a commitment from former Marshall quarterback Grant Wells and from ex-South Carolina quarterback Jason Brown.
Here are the announcements, which came simultaneously on Thursday evening:
Wells is the more proven passer. He’s a multi-year starter at Marshall where he racked up 34 career passing touchdowns and 9 career rushing touchdowns. He also completed north of 64 percent of his passes.
Brown has just one year of experience under his belt at South Carolina. He played in 7 games this season and completed 55.6 percent of his passes for 7
21 yards, 8 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
Wells and Brown will compete for the starting job this offseason, but it’s possible both could see the field on a regular basis in 2022. Based on their joint announcement, both quarterbacks seem to be bought in to Virginia Tech’s plan.
The duo will be replacing Braxton Burmeister, who entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason. Burmeister threw for 1,960 yards and 14 touchdowns this season.
