Virginia Tech picks up comfortable win over Wofford

Virginia Tech is 2-1 on the season after defeating Wofford 27-7 in Blacksburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Hokies jumped out to an early 20-0 lead in the first half and were able to coast to victory a

fter that. Virginia Tech’s offense scored 17 points on the second quarter to help seal the win.

Quarterback Grant Wells had his best game of the season so far, throwing for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns. He did not throw any interceptions for a second straight game.

If there was a negative on the offensive side of the ball, it was the lack of an efficient running game. Virginia Tech’s leading rusher, Jalen Holston, c

arried the ball 16 times for just 66 yards. He averaged just 4.1 yards per carry — below the typical expectation vs. an FCS opponent.

Defensively, Virginia Tech was dominant. The Hokies held Wofford to just 38 total rushing yards. Terriers quarterback Jimmy Weirick completed 14-of-20 passes for 161 yards.

Virginia Tech will now turn its attention to West Virginia on Thursday night as the Hokies look for a 3-1 start to the Brent Pry era.
