Virginia Tech running back Jalen Holston is a game-time decision for the Hokies’ Week 1 contest, coach Brent Pry said on Wednesday.

Holston is dealing with a minor injury he suffered during fall camp. However, Pry sounded optimistic that he will be able to go on Friday night.

“He looked pretty good yesterday,” Pry told reporters. “He’s out there today. He’s very good. He feels confident. He wants to play … It’s trending in the right direction right now.”

Virginia Tech is already thin at running back due to an injury for starter Malachi Thomas, who will be out for Week 1. Thomas is dealing with a left foot injury that he sustained during fall camp.

Holston is a 6th year senior and is one of the most experienced players on Virginia Tech’s roster. He has 914 yards and 8 touchdowns in his Hokies’ career. Last season, he rushed for 199 yards and 1 touchdown on 53 carries.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET on Friday.
