Virginia Tech running back Raheem Blackshear announced his intentions to enter the 2022 NFL Draft on Sunday afternoon.

Blackshear made the announcement on Twitter, and seemed to indicate that he plans to play in the Pinstripe Bowl later this month.

“Although it has been a tough decision, I would like to formally announce that I will be declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft and will start training in preparation for my professional football career at the conclusion of the season,” Blackshear wrote.

Blackshear was Virginia Tech’s best offensive player for much of the season. He carried the ball 121 times for 711 yards and 6 touchdowns this year while also being a threat as a pass catcher. He caught 23 passes for 244 yards and an additional score.

This was Blackshear’s fifth season of college football. After beginning his career at Rutgers, he transferred to Virginia Tech and was an important member of the Hokies’ offense over the past two seasons.

His expected participation in the Pinstripe Bowl is a big help for Virginia Tech. The Hokies won’t have other offensive mainstays for this game like receiver Tré Turner (NFL Draft) and quarterback Braxton Burmeister (transfer).

Virginia Tech will face Maryland in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 29.
