Virginia Tech knows a thing or 2 about beating Virginia in Blacksburg. They only added to the story Saturday afternoon.

The Hokies took it to Virginia, downing the No. 6 ranked Cavaliers 74-68 behind a strong performance from Sean Pendulla. The sophomore guard led all scorers, dropping 22 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Senior Justyn Mutts was excellent as well, adding 17 points and 8 assists on the afternoon.

This is the 3rd straight time Virginia Tech has won over Virginia in Blacksburg.

The win is big for bragging rights, sure, but it’s also huge for Virginia Tech’s fleeting NCAA Tournament chances.  Since dropping 7 games in a row from late December to late January, the Hokies have won 3 of their last 4, including wins over Duke and now the Cavaliers.

Virginia Tech still has to start stringing some wins together, though. Their next battle is against Boston College on Wednesday.
