Virginia Tech snapped a 7-game losing streak Monday in amazing fashion, upsetting Duke to improve to 12-8 on the season. With the win, the Hokies pick up just their 2nd ACC win of the season. Duke, conversely, drops to 14-6 on the year with a 5-4 ACC record.

Grant Basile led the way for the Hokies, scoring a team-high 24 points with 8 rebounds. Michael Collins made what would eventually prove to be the game-winner in the 2nd to last possession, nailing a a jumper to put the Hokies up 77-75. Duke’s Tyrese Proctor missed a 3-pointer on the other end and VT took home the win, 78-75 when the smoke settled.

Virginia Tech finished 10-19 from 3 and shot 57% from the field.

Things started well for VT in conference play this season before spiraling into chaos. The Hokies downed North Carolina in November, then proceeded to lose its next 7 conference matchups.

Virginia Tech is slated to take on Syracuse this Saturday, looking to start a win streak of their own following Monday’s huge win. Miami and Virginia await the following week.
