Virginia Tech wins rivalry game vs. Virginia, reaches bowl eligibility
Virginia Tech defeated rival Virginia 29-24 on Saturday night and reached bowl eligibility in the process.
The Hokies nearly allowed Virginia to take the lead late in the game, but were able to get a red zone stop in the game’s final moments.

Virginia Tech will now prepare for a bowl game despite firing coach Justin Fuente earlier this season. Interim coach J.C. Price was emotional after securing the victory.

Running back Raheem Blackshear was the hero for Virginia Tech. He carried the ball 18 times for 169 yards and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister also rushed for over 100 yards and threw for 141 yards and 1 touchdown.
Virginia Tech’s defense was excellent in the second half. The Hokies limited Virginia to just 3 second-half points. No Cavalier ran for more than 23 yards on the day (Wayne Taulapapa).
Virginia Tech has lost to Virginia just one time since 2004.
