Virginia Tech women’s basketball wins ACC Tournament for 1st time in program history

Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball team captured its 1st ACC Tournament victory in program history on Sunday afternoon.

The Hokies defeated Louisville 75-67 to win the crown. Georgia Amoore led the team with 25 points and 4 assists. Elizabeth Kitley also scored 20 points in the win.

The Hokies held Louisville star Hailey Van Lith to just 12 points. Chrislyn Carr did score 27 points, but it wasn’t enough for Louisville to overcome Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech is expected to be a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. According to ESPN’s Charlie Creme

, the Hokies are currently projected to be a No. 2 seed. Creme’s projection has 8 ACC teams in the field, which is higher than any other conference.

This will be Virginia Tech’s 3rd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. However, the Hokies have not reached the Sweet 16 since 1999.

The NCAA Tournament selection show will be held on Monday, March 13.
