Coaching carousel? Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson comments on potential interest from other programs

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson could become one of the biggest names in the coaching carousel this cycle if he chooses to leave for greener pastures.

Clawson is in the midst of leading Wake Forest to a record-setting sixth-consecutive bowl game. Even better, he has the Demon Deacons just one win away from reaching the ACC Championship Game.

Clawson has specifically been mentioned for the Virginia Tech job, which came open on Tuesday morning. He essentially issued a “no comment” when the subject of other jobs was broached at his weekly press conference.

“We’re getting ready for Clemson and we’re pretty locked in on that,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

That’s a standard answer for a sitting head coach, especially for one that’s entering a big game this weekend. If Wake Forest w

ins either of its last two contests, it will clinch the ACC Atlantic title.

Despite a 9-1 record, Wake Forest is the underdog vs. Clemson this week. The Tigers have been playing better in recent weeks and, despite their 7-3 record, have one of the nation’s best defenses.

Clawson is in his eighth season at Wake Forest. He struggled in his first two seasons, but has led the program to a 43-28 record in the last six years.

Kick off vs. Clemson is at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
