Damari Monsanto update: Wake Forest star to have season-ending surgery

Damari Monsanto left Wake Forest’s Wednesday game against NC State with a serious injury. Unfortunately, that injury will sideline him for the rest of the Demon Deacons’ 2022-23 campaign.

Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes released a statement Thursday announcing that Monsanto will have season-ending knee surgery to repair his torn left patella tendon.

The loss of Monsanto is a huge blow to Wake Forest heading into March. Monsanto is the ACC’s 3-point leader with 87 over 27 games (40.5% made for 3.2 per game). He’s the No. 2 scorer on the Demon Deacons with 13.26 points per game (48% field-goal shooting) behind only Tyree Appleby (18.50 points per game).

Wake Forest is on a 2-game losing skid, falling to 17-11 overall with a 9-8 mark in conference play. The Demon Deacons look to finish strong in the final 3 regular-season games before the ACC tournament

. Wake Forest hosts Notre Dame on Saturday.
