Phoenix Suns reportedly make decision on Chris Paul’s status for 2023-24 season

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly made their decision on Chris Paul’s status with the team heading into the offseason.

According to Chris Haynes with TNT, the Suns have notified Paul that he will be waived. That would make Paul one of the more highly-sought after players on the free-agent market when the offseason begins.

Paul has spent the last 3 seasons with the Suns and shined during his time in Phoenix. He averaged 15.1 points, 9.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals over those 3 seasons but was limited to 59 games this past season due to injuries.

While Paul just turned 38 years old and has 18 seasons in the NBA, he has shown he can still contribute at a high level when he is on the court. He’ll likely have a number of suitors as a free agent.

Chris Paul career overview

During his time in college at Wake Forest, Paul averaged 15 points, 6.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 steals across 2 seasons. He also shot 4

7% from the floor and 47% from 3-point range before being selected No. 4 overall in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Paul spent the first 6 seasons of his NBA career with the New Orleans Hornets before spending 6 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers. He has also spent time with the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Paul has compiled an illustrious portfolio as a 5-time NBA leader in assists, a 6-time NBA leader in steals and an 11-time All-NBA selection, but the ultimate goal of an NBA Finals ring has eluded him. Most recently, the Suns were eliminated from the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets with Paul limited to 2 games in that series.
