Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman is eligible to return to the lineup this weekend against Vanderbilt, the program announced on Tuesday.
The program also clarified what he’s been dealing with. Hartman was diagnosed with Paget-Schroetter syndrome and had surgery to address a blood clot issue.
However, Hartman has now been medically cleared.
That’s big news for the Demon Deacons, who are hoping to contend for the ACC title this season.
Hartman missed just one game with this ailment. Mitch Griffis filled in admirably last week against VMI, throwing for 288 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 44-10 victory.

Wake Forest opened as an 8-point favorite over Vanderbilt in Nashville on Saturday. However, that spread could increase quickly with news of Hartman’s status becoming public.
Last season, Hartman led Wake Forest to its second 10+ win season in program history. The Demon Deacons reached the ACC Championship Game, but fell to Pittsburgh.
Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday.
