One night before Wake Forest takes the field with a division title on the line, the Demon Deacons have locked up their head coach.

Despite rumors he was interested in moving jobs this cycle, coach Dave Clawson agreed to a longterm extension with Wake Forest on Friday evening.

Yahoo!’s Pete Thamel was first to report the news, which was later confirmed by Wake Forest.

“Dave Clawson is an elite coach, leader and program builder and we are excited to announce this reaffirmation of his long-term commitment to Wake Forest University,” athletic director John Currie said in a press release. “Our desire is for him to finish his coaching career as Wake Forest’s all-time winningest coach. Coach Clawson and his staff have brought an unprecedented amount of success to Demon Deacon football and he is truly one of the elite coaches in the country. f excellence in the classroom and community.”

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Clawson is the first Wake Forest coach to have a winning record since D.C. Walker (1937-50). Clawson is 49-47 in nearly 8 seasons at the helm.

Wake Forest is one win away from its second 10-win season in program history. The Demon Deacons are also trying to win 7 conference games for the first time ever.

If Wake Forest defeats Boston College on Saturday, it will clinch the ACC Atlantic title and will play Pitt in the ACC Championship Game next week. Kickoff vs. the Eagles is at 12:00 p.m. ET.
