Wake Forest dominates Rutgers in Gator Bowl

Wake Forest took care of business on Friday afternoon vs. Rutgers in the Gator Bowl, winning 38-10.

Quarterback Sam Hartman added to his special season, throwing for 304 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. Receiver A.T. Perry caught 10 passes for 127 yards and 1 touchdown.

Here’s coach Dave Clawson hoisting the trophy after the game:

Of course, this Rutgers team didn’t expect to be playing in a bowl game this year until last week. The Scarlet Knights served as a replacement team after Texas A&M was forced to bow out due to COVID-19.

Rutgers fought hard in the first half and appeared to have legitimate upset chances until the fourth quarter began. Wake Forest scored all 15 points in the final s

tanza.

This win means a historic milestone for Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons have now won 11 games in a season for just the second time in program history, joining its 2006 squad that was the ACC title.

It also represents a peak for Clawson’s program, which has now appeared in six consecutive bowl games. Wake Forest has won 8+ games in three of the last five seasons, which marks just the second time the Demon Deacons have accomplished that feat in school history.
