Wake Forest lost an overtime battle to Boston College on Wednesday afternoon, putting its NCAA Tournament hopes in serious doubt.
Alondes Williams dealt with cramps toward the end of regulation and in overtime of the 82-77 loss. He finished with 17 points and 4 assists.
The Demon Deacons were already on Joe Lunardi’s bubble and have now added another Quad 3 loss to their résumé. Fortunately for Wake Forest, Lunardi still has it amongst the Final Four teams in his bracket projection.
However, that could change in the coming days as conference tournaments continue. Bubble teams like Xavier, Wyoming, SMU, Indiana, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma, amongst others, still have a chance to impress the selection committee.
Wake Forest has just one Quad 1 this season — at Virginia Tech back on Dec. 4. The Demon Deacons’ nonconference schedule didn’t produce any quality wins.
If Wake Forest does make the NCAA Tournament, it will be its first appearance since the 2016-17 season. That year, the Demon Deacons ended up losing in a play-in game in Dayton. Wake Forest’s last appearance in the Field of 64 was in 2009-10.
