Wake Forest moves off ESPN’s NCAA Tournament bubble despite loss to Duke

Wake Forest narrowly lost to Duke on Tuesday night after a Mark Williams put-back dunk with less than a second remaining.

The loss robbed Wake Forest of a signature win for its résumé, but the Demon Deacons’ NCAA Tournament chances still improved with the performance.

Wake is now completely off of Joe Lunardi’s NCAA Tournament bubble. It was one of the ‘last four byes’ before traveling to Durham.

Wake Forest is one of five ACC teams currently in Lunardi’s Field of 64. It’s joined by Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Miami. Virginia Tech is c

urrently on the wrong side of the bubble, but is trending in the right direction.

The Demon Deacons still have more work to do. They host the Fighting Irish on Saturday in a game that would qualify as a Quad 2 win. Wake Forest is 6-7 against the top two quadrants this season.

Tipoff in Winston-Salem for that game is at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
