Wake Forest defeated Notre Dame 79-74 on Saturday afternoon, which could prove to be an important victory on Selection Sunday.

Alondes Williams took control of the game down the stretch. He finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.

Wake Forest is now 21-7 on the season and 11-6 in ACC play. The Demon Deacons now have eight victories vs. Quad 1 or Quad 2 opponents this season.

That should be more than enough to get into the Big Dance, considering the rest of Wake Forest’s résumé. Steve Forbes’ squad has another chance at Quad 2 win on Wednesday vs. Clemson.

For Notre Dame, this is a disappointing loss. The Fighting Irish have been close to unbeatable for nearly two months now and were tied for first place in the ACC standings. This was just their third loss since Christmas.

Notre Dame is still likely to be an NCAA Tournament team, as is Duke and Miami from the ACC. North Carolina and Virginia Tech are also candidates to make it to March.

Wake Forest faces Clemson on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
