Wake Forest’s leading rusher in 2021, Christian Beal-Smith, is moving on, per a report.

According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, Beal-Smith is already in the transfer portal. He has led Wake Forest in rushing in each of the last two seasons.

This is obviously a huge loss for Wake Forest and it marks the second consecutive year that a key running back has decided to transfer. Kenneth Walker III left for Michigan State after rushing for 579 yards in 2020.

Despite Beal-Smith’s departure, Wake Forest does have some depth at running back. Christian Turner and Justice Ellison each rushed for over 500 yards in 2021 and are expected back next season.

Looking at the offense as a whole, the Demon Deacons should be formidable again in 2022. Quarterback Sam Hartman is also expected to be back, as is receiver A.T. Perry.

Wake Forest is coming off its second 11-win season in program history. The Demon Deacons have also qualified for a program-record six consecutive bowl games.
