Wake Forest defeated Florida State 31-21 on Saturday afternoon, keeping its ACC title hopes alive.

The Demon Deacons are now 1-1 in conference play this season after losing to Clemson back in Week 4. If the Tigers lose 2 conference games the rest of the way, the Demon Deacons would control their own destiny in the Atlantic.

Sam Hartman was excellent in this game. He threw for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns, but he was methodical in how he led Wake Forest’s offense.

The Demon Deacons converted an incredible 10-of-18 third down attempts and made all 3 of their 4th down tries. That success on key downs allowed Wake Forest to score just enough points to win the game.

Wake’s defense was also solid, limiting Florida State to just 1 touchdown drive in the first half. It also forced the Noles into a pair of field goals in this game — both were missed.

Wake Forest is now in position to win 10+ games for a second consecutive season. It would be the Demon Deacons’ third such campaign in program history.

Wake hosts Army next weekend.
