Dabo Swinney on Boston College’s red bandana game: ‘It’s an amazing tribute’

Clemson is set to face Boston College this weekend as the Eagles play in their annual ‘red bandana game.’

The red bandana tradition honors former Boston College lacrosse player Welles Crowther. He became known as the “man in the red bandana” after heroically saving multiple lives during the Sept. 11 attack. Crowther passed away on that day.

On Tuesday, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney acknowledged the importance of the “amazing tribute” and said he keeps a red bandana in his brief case.

“It’s been in my brief case for years,” Swinney said. “One of those things that’s stuck down in there—every time I go to find my charger, I see the red bandana. It’s just something I’ve always held on to.”

Last season in the red bandana game, Boston College defeated Virginia Tech 17-3. Pat Garwo III rushed for 116 yards and 1 touchdown in the win.

Boston College and Clemson will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
