LSU coach Brian Kelly is opting to not announce a starting quarterback ahead of its Week 1 matchup with Florida State this weekend.
Kelly told reporters on Monday that the decision to keep his quarterback under wraps is a “tactical advantage.”
Despite Kelly’s best efforts, it’s been widely rumored that Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels will be LSU’s starting quarterback this season. If that’s the case, then he will have beaten out redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier and veteran Myles Brennan, who left LSU’s program earlier this month.
Daniels is a talented quarterback who can make plays with his arm and his legs. Last season, he completed 65.4% of his passes for 2,381 yards and 10 touchdowns. However, he also threw 10 interceptions — perhaps a weakness that FSU’s talented secondary can exploit on Sunday night.
On the ground, Daniels rushed for 710 yards and 6 touchdowns last season.
Kelly also said the fact that LSU hasn’t played a game yet is an advantage for the Tigers. Florida State defeated Duquesne 47-7 in Week 0.
Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday night.
