Georgia Tech gives positive injury update on QB Jeff Sims before Florida State game

Georgia Tech quarterback Jeff Sims could be ready to go for this weekend’s game against Florida State.

Quarterbacks coach (and former Florida State star) Chris Weinke told reporters on Wednesday that Sims was in “full pads” at practice today and could play against the Seminoles this weekend.

Weinke also said backup Zach Gibson and true freshman Zach Pyron could also see the field.

Georgia Tech coach Brent Key previously said Sims was day-to-day with a foot injury.

Gibson replaced Sims last week in Georgia Tech’s loss to Virginia, and it did not go well for the Yellow Jackets. He completed just 10-of-25 passes for 99 yards and was a negative in the running game as well.

If Pyron plays, it would be his collegiate debut. He’s a former 4-star prospect from Pinson Valley, Alabama.

If Sims is healthy, he’s talented enough to cause problems for Florida State’s defense. FSU is coming off of a bye and will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak.

Kickoff is at 12:00 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
