Miami women’s basketball advances to Sweet 16 with win over No. 1 Indiana

Miami’s women’s basketball program is headed back to the Sweet 16.

The Canes upset No. 1-seeded Indiana on Monday night to punch their ticket to the 2nd weekend. This is Miami’s 2nd-ever appearance in the Sweet 16 in program history.

The win came on the road against the Hoosiers. Destiny Harden hit the game-winner with just 3.3 seconds remaining.

Here’s a clip:

Lola Pendane led Miami with 19 points. Harden (18) and Jasmyne Roberts (16) also scored in double figures. Haley Cavinder finished with 9 points, including 2 clutch free throws to give Miami a 3-point lead with just over 12 seconds remaining.

Miami’s only other appearance in the Sweet 16 came back in 1992. The Canes have never reached the Elite Eight in program history.

This is the 1st time ever that both of Miami’s basketball programs are in the Sweet 16 in the same season. Miami’s men’s basketball team also defeated a higher-seeded Indiana team to reach the 2nd weekend.

Miami will face No. 4-seeded Villanova in the Sweet 16 on Friday.
