Norchad Omier receives status update for Miami’s Round of 64 matchup vs. Drake

Norchad Omier status for the NCAA Tournament has been up in the air. Fortunately, Miami provided a jolt to fans everywhere ahead of Friday’s tip-off.

The Hurricanes announced just prior to game time that Omier has been medically cleared and will be playing against Drake. That is a huge boost for Miami, a No. 5 seed, in this year’s tournament.

Omier was originally injured in the early moments of an ACC Tournament matchup against Duke. Without the big man in the lineup, the Hurricanes fell despite a late push against the Blue Devils.

The 6-foot-7 Omier leads the Hurricanes with 9.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He is also 3rd on the team with 13.6 points per game and shoots an efficient 59.1% from the floor this season.

Friday’s NCAA Tournament game between Drake and the Hurricanes is being broadcast on TBS.
