Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi says Drake Maye turned down multi-million dollar offer to leave UNC

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi revealed new information about the recruitment of UNC quarterback Drake Maye this offseason.

Narduzzi said on 937 TheFan on Tuesday that multiple schools offered Maye $5 million to transfer away from North Carolina for 2023. This coincides with Mack Brown’s “tampering” allegations

that he shared on Monday.

Narduzzi has long been frustrated with the NIL landscape. Last offseason, Pitt lost Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison to the transfer portal. Narduzzi reportedly confronted USC coach Lincoln Riley

after Addison decided to enter the portal.

Maye was a relative unknown entering the 2022 season as he spent his first year in Chapel Hill as the backup for Sam Howell. However, Maye was one of the nation’s best quarterbacks this year and was named ACC Player of the Year.

Maye has been repeatedly been loyal to North Carolina. He backed off of a commitment to Alabama in high school in order to attend Carolina. His father, Mark Maye, played quarterback for the Tar Heels in the 1980’s.

Maye’s first season as UNC’s starter was a success. He led Carolina to a 9-3 regular season title and its first Coastal division crown since 2015.

North Carolina will go for its 10th win of the year later this month against Oregon in the Holiday Bowl.
