Notre Dame coach Mike Brey sounds off on NIL controversies: ‘We’ve got to stop complaining’

On Tuesday morning, Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey shared his brutally honest opinion about the state of college athletics.

While many coaches have used their platform to express frustrations over NIL and the transfer portal, Brey called upon his coaching colleagues to adjust to their new reality.

“We’ve got to stop complaining,” Brey said, via ESPN’s David Hale. “This is the world we’re in, and last time I checked, we make pretty good money. So everybody should shut up and adjust.”

Per multiple reports, the NCAA is considering new policies that would limit the scope of “NIL collectives.” However, Brey told reporters he doesn’t believe in the NCAA’s ability to “police” the situation.

This has been a hot topic in college sports lately, especially with the situations around Pitt receiver Jordan Addison and Miami guard Isaiah Wong.

This will be an interesting issue to track as leaders and administrators in college sports decide on a path forward.
