Florida State defensive back Azareye’h Thomas is off to a great start to his first fall camp with the Seminoles.

Thomas was amongst the first names mentioned by coach Mike Norvell as he was naming players who have been impressive so far this week.

“I thought Azareye’h Thomas did some really good things,” Norvell told reporters on Sunday. “I think he’s put together a really good start of camp.

“He’s a very fluid mover. I mean he’s explosive, he’s got great ball skills. He finds a way to put himself in a great position. He had a couple [plays] today. I love what I’m seeing … He plays with a great deal of confidence for a young player.”

Thomas isn’t necessarily expected to start for the Seminoles in 2022, but he could rise up the depth chart if his impressive fall continues. He was one of FSU’s best recruits in the class of 2022, coming in at No. 89 nationally per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Florida State’s secondary does have several contributors returning in 2022. If Thomas is going to start at cornerback at some point this season, he will have to beat out Omarion Cooper or Renardo Green.

FSU opens the season with Duquesne on Aug. 27.
