Duke center Kyle Filipowski is entering the 2024 NBA Draft and leaving Durham after 2 seasons with the Blue Devils.

The 7-foot center from Westtown, New York announced his draft declaration on Friday. He was the ACC Rookie of the Year, the ACC Tournament MVP, and an honorable mention All-American as a freshman. This season, he was an All-ACC First Team selection, a finalist for the Karl Malone Award, and a consensus second-team All-American.

“This has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue it,” Filipowski said in a statement. “While I may no longer call Durham home, know that I will always carry this community with me.”

Over 72 games at Duke, Filipowski averaged 15.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He shot 47% from the field, 31% from the 3-point line, and 72% from the charity stripe.

As a sophomore, Filipowski bumped his assists from 2.1 per 40 minutes to 3.7, he boosted his 3-point percentage from 28% to 35%, doubled her blocks, and cut his turnovers.

He ranked third among all ACC players in PER and second in win shares per 40 minutes. He led the league in box plus/minus and finished inside the top 10 in effective field goal percentage.

Filipowski’s departure ensures Duke coach Jon Scheyer will have to completely rebuild his frontcourt. Ryan Young has exhausted his eligibility while Mark Mitchell and Christian Reeves have hit the transfer portal.

Khaman Maluach and Patrick Ngongba II — 2 pieces of Duke’s top-ranked 2024 signing class — will have the ability to step in right away and find a significant role within the rotation.

Filipowski projects as a first-round pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. ESPN’s Kevin Pelton has Filipowski ranked as the No. 14 prospect in the class. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony had Filipowski just outside the lottery in his most recent mock. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor has Filipowski mocked to the Utah Jazz with the 27th pick.

Freshman guard Jaren McCain also declared for the NBA Draft on Friday. McCain averaged 14.3 points a game to go with 5 rebounds as a freshman. He could also hear his name called in the first round. O’Connor has him projected to go with pick No. 14 — the last selection of the lottery.
