Duke freshman wing Dariq Whitehead is progressing well from an offseason foot injury, according to coach Jon Scheyer.

Scheyer gave up an update on Whitehead’s status at ACC Tipoff in Charlotte on Wednesday.

“Yeah, Dariq is doing great. He’s entering the next phase of his treatment and his rehab of what he’s doing,” Scheyer said. “He’s able to get on the floor a little bit more. We’re not at a point yet to say exactly when he’ll be back, but he’s progressing in a great way and he’s working hard, and I know he’s anxious to be out here with these guys practicing every day.”

Whitehead is expected to be a major part of Duke’s team this season. He’s one of the top freshmen in the country and could develop into a top NBA draft pick for the 2023 draft.

Whitehead was a 5-star prospect and the No. 2 overall player in the country for his class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Earlier this month, the Blue Devils announced Whitehead had undergone surgery for a foot injury. A specific timetable for his recovery was not given, but Duke expects him to return to the floor at some point this season.

“We’re confident he’ll be back on the court soon,” Scheyer said in the original announcement.

Duke begins the 2022-23 season on Nov. 7 against Jacksonville.
