Florida State brought in several highly-impactful transfers this offseason.

At nearly the mid-way point of the 2022 campaign, ESPN has published a list of 25 impactful transfers — along with some thoughts from anonymous college coaches.

FSU receiver Johnny Wilson and defensive end Jared Verse each made the cut. Wilson arrived this offseason from Arizona State. Verse has had no issues adjusting to Power 5 football after starting his collegiate career at FCS Albany.

Wilson is already up to 357 yards and 3 touchdowns this season — both career-highs. Here are some comments from anonymous coaches in ESPN’s story:

“That big receiver, he’s crushing it,” an ACC coach said. “That dude’s a freak,” an ACC defensive coordinator said. “He’s their outlet guy, that’s for sure.”

Verse has missed some time with a knee injury this season, but has still managed to record 4 sacks in 4 games. His 1 sack per-game average leads all ACC pass rushers so far.

Here’s what anonymous coaches had to say about Verse:

“I can’t imagine what havoc he was wreaking at Albany, if he was causing those kinds of problems for LSU,” an opposing offensive coordinator said. “He’s in the right spot, he should have been playing at this level for a while.” Verse can “flat-out run,” a Florida State source said, but can also be overaggressive at times and can get out of position.”

Verse played sparingly against Wake Forest last week, but is expected to have a bigger role against NC State on Saturday.

Other Florida State transfers such as receiver Mycah Pittman, running back Trey Benson and linebacker Tatum Bethune have also been a big reason for FSU’s 4-1 start.
